The date display, a much-discussed complication under watch men, is a comparatively recent development in the long history of precision watchmaking. Only at the beginning of the 20th century were the first wristwatches presented with pointer date. This classic display form is also favored by the Grossmann watchmakers for their date display in the ATUM Date. A complete date scale and an exceptionally shaped pointer underline the elegance and functionality of the model line. The jumping date circuit combines a precise readable display with mechanical refinement and a rarely experienced operating comfort.
Caliber 100.3
The caliber 100.3 of the ATUM Date is based on the caliber 100.1 of the ATUM, whose characteristic components, such as pier with 2/3-plate, drive, lock, removable lift module, escapement and swing system are again made in high-artistic finish. The jumping date circuit consists of a complex mechanism whose components are integrated on the dial face of the work plate. The lift and the pointer mechanism are identical to the caliber 100.1. In order to avoid a simultaneous reversing of both systems or damage to the date circuit, the additional date setting mechanism is decoupled via a stop lever as soon as the crown for the pointer position is pulled and the second stop stops the watch.
Jumping date switching
The jumping date circuit works by means of a complex system consisting of the date switch wheel, trigger lever, switch star and date ring with pointer. The date shifting wheel consists of the wheel itself, an annular spring-loaded spring and the shift finger. The shift finger is freely rotatably mounted on the wheel, but is fixed by the ring spring in such a position that it can move on both sides and always has to tension the spring. The mechanism is driven by the hour wheel at the speed ratio 2: 1, so that the shift wheel rotates counterclockwise in 24 hours. The ratio between control and date ring is calculated in such a way that a switching step causes 11.6 ° rotation of the date ring and the display of 31 days is possible.
Date setting mechanism
This form of the date circuit has, in addition to the exactly jumping date display, the advantage that the shift finger, in addition to the few millisecond jump to the next date, is not engaged with the shift wheel. The date can be adjusted back and forth at any time, with the clock movement continuing. A correction of the date, for example at the end of the month, takes place via the separate setting crown at "10". This setting tool is not active in the normal position and excludes an unintentional adjustment. To set the date, pull the crown out. The movement continues and the date can be adjusted by turning in both directions. The date ring with the pointer is positioned exactly on the correct date by means of a ratchet.
Dial and pointer
On the solid silver dial, the internal reversed minutiae place for the complete date scale from 1 to 31. The blue date digits stand out clearly from the applied appliqués of the hour display. To prevent the date pointer from competing with the hour and minute hand, it points to the date display instead of from the center. Hand-crafted by hand, the bracket-shaped date-hand is given as a contrast to the blue date-digits, the initial color brown-violet. The ATUM Date carries the typical lance-shaped hands. They are manufactured in the manufactory, fined and browned to match the case in rose gold. For the variant in white gold the entire pointer set is made of stainless steel polished.
